Vitiligo also known as leucoderma effects 6 to 8 in 1000 people. It is characterized by presence of white patches over skin with or without white hair. It does not have any symptom like itching / pain / scaling / loss of sensation. Vitiligo is noncontagious and is not necessarily transmitted in genes.
There are various types of Vitiligo depending on stability and site affected. It is mostly diagnosed clinically by Dermatologist and confirmed by wood's lamp or skin biopsy. Treatment options are chosen depending on the stability and extent of involvement. Medical treatment medicines in the form of topical and oral treatment are recommended usually combined with phototherapy (UVA / UVB).
Surgical treatment is chosen in stable vitiligo i.e. 1 to 2 year. Melanocytes transfer / Hair Transplant / Suction Graft / Autologus Skin Graft / Punch Graft are done according to suitability to patients. There is no proven role of diet restriction / home remedy in vitiligo.
